At present, RacerMate notes that once those parts are gone, they’re gone for good. They’ll be treated on a first come, first served basis. For those outside of this period, the company will continue to sell parts and trainers until those parts/trainers run out of stock. The company will continue to offer support for new CompuTrainer units, within their standard 1-year warranty period. The exact details are still being finalized, but here’s roughly what’s planned. However, the good news is that customers aren’t entirely left out in the cold. A more formal and public announcement from Chuck Wurster is to be sent sometime this week clarifying further on the exact details. In e-mails with the company this evening, I have confirmed the above e-mail is correct. It has been a marvelous 40+ years and we have enjoyed sharing in the victories and friendships we have made along the way.” As a small company with the premier indoor trainer in terms of performance and durability, we have found ourselves in a place where we cannot continue. Technology and competition from larger companies have both eaten into the marketplace. “It is with a heavy heart that those of us here at RacerMate must tell you that we are closing the doors on CompuTrainer. The e-mail sent to athletes was short and to the point. No company or product has had a bigger impact on the indoor training experience than the CompuTrainer has. This marks a pretty significant event in the history books of indoor cycling. By this evening I was able to confirm those reports directly with the company, as well as get a bit more detail. We know exactly how much work you are performing from start to finish, maximizing your valuable training time.Earlier today RacerMate, which has long made the CompuTrainer and other high performance trainers, notified sponsored athletes that the company is shuttering their CompuTrainer product line, as initially reported by Tom Demerly. Measuring power and targeting specific wattage within a training interval removes the guess work from training. Additionally, your heart rate response is not immediate, so when performing short, intense intervals in training, the heart rate response may not be evident until the interval is nearly complete. So your body’s heart rate response to a given power output can change day to day. Heart rate varies based on dehydration, heat stress, fatigue, the inconsistent nature of riding with traffic, etc. The two measurements are both great tools when used together in your overall training program. Whereas power is a direct measure of the amount of work you are doing, heart rate is an indirect measure of how you are responding to that load. If you own another brand of heart rate monitor, we recommend you record and use those values in your training as well. If you have a Polar heart rate monitor, the data will be picked up by the CompuTrainer system and recorded along with your power values (and cadence if your bike is equipped with a cadence sensor). What are Power-based Training and Functional Threshold Power? Sensors for tracking these data are also available for purchase at Wheel & Sprocket. The same is true for your Polar heart rate monitor. If your bike is equipped with a cadence-sensing computer, we can set it up to record and display on-screen with the rest of the CompuTrainer data. From the platforms for each bike to the fans and available accessories, they have it all. The CompuTrainer set-up at Wheel & Sprocket is bar none. So each rider is performing the same workout qualitatively, but not quantitatively.

The CompuTrainer Coaching Software allows us to tailor each weekly class to your personal fitness and goals by creating training intervals based on a percentage of your Functional Threshold Power (FTP) as established in the performance evaluation during our first class of the session. All riders are performing the same workout but each at his or her own fitness level (based on the FTP test and associated power zones). With the Multi-Rider system, 8 CompuTrainers are linked.
